Last of April's finds

Before I bid adieu to April, I am posting once more with the rest of this month's finds. There have been quite a few and I have had a blast searching, selling and fulfilling wish lists.

Below is a photo of a new in box and plastic wrap stainless steel storage food storage containers. Looks like maybe from the 70's? Not sure and can find nothing online. These were at one of the church sales and since it was in a "bundle" I figure I paid approximately 25 cents for it. Brenna has possession now. The pregnancy books were a real find and I delivered them to the pregnancy center this past week. The person who took the books was so happy to have them especially since they are later editions than the ones they have. These go in a free bin and I like that. I paid 25 cents each at a home yard sale.

The little sandals are for Nate and the beach hat for Hugh. The hat met Kelley's wish list requirements: chin strap and quick drying material. It is new looking as are the sandals.

I found these rattan shelving units at thrift store in Grifton, NC just down the road from the flea market. Again, as luck would have it, this place is open only a couple of days a week and one of those is Weds.! Crissie and I went by there this past week and I paid $20 for the shelves, a cute Otagari trout mug, and a nut cracker. The shelf units are now up in my attic and should help with the organizing effort. And no, I did not paint them before taking them upstairs!

I sold all the items shown below except for the corkscrew set. Not a single nibble when I listed it. And anyone who has ever used a Rabbit wine opener knows how great these things are. It is new, still in shrink wrap. I am not at all sorry it hasn't sold. It is going to make someone a great Christmas gift months from now!

The basket storage unit had a few scuff marks which I touched up with a little spray paint as well as the wicker mirror. They both went really fast as soon as I listed them. The magnetic wooden paper doll sets have found a home with a thrilled three year old little girl.

Something new in the world of shoes: Squeaker shoes for children. And yes, those are the squeaker inserts pictured in the small plastic bag at the bottom of the photo. I wonder how fast parents remove the squeakers! This too has already sold.

Wooden puzzles sell so well and I picked all three at a church sale yesterday. Sold them today and the parent wrote to tell me her little boy is enjoying them.

At one of the church sales last weekend on the $5 table I picked up this JVC turntable. I hope to sell it but have to wait for the belt I had to order from Ebay. Yes, the 25 year old belt had melted and needs to be replaced. Fortunately there are Youtube videos showing how to replace. I hope that is all that needs work on, fingers crossed!

April's bounty

Ok folks, since our new addition, Honey Bea, arrived at our home, I have been pretty busy with getting to know our new dog and adjusting to life with a young dog. Been a long while since a very active canine has lived here. So I am just now catching up on my yard sale activities and updating the blog. As you can see from the photos below, Honey Bea is a brittany/beagle mix and cute as can be. Rather petite, weighing only 18lbs. Pru the cat has not been very pleased with the adoption but she seems to be tolerating the annoyingly friendly cannine. At least the claws aren't working their magic on a regular basis.

A couple of weekend ago, Brenna joined Johanna and I and below is her haul from the morning

Pony bead bags were 50 cents each, tablecloths $1 each, and we found the ECU and the polo shirts for Robbie for 50cents each. One of the ECU shirts is an actual game jersey! How cool is that? For Nate the wood puzzle and pop up toy. $1 each. The green bins will hold small toys. $1 for both.

I found the items below at one of 3 church sales and you know how love a church sale! Dirt cheap!! The Dinosaur puzzle was 50 cents, the dinosaur pop up tent was $1, the set of Disney books were 25 cents each and the I Spy book was 50c. I was able to sell all at a tidy profit. Oh, and yes, the dinosaur tent folds up to a very manageable size and comes with a bag. 

At one of the church sales every thing was $1. No matter what. Except for one $5 table. All the items below were from that sale. All sold except for the emulsion/hand blender. I might just have to donate that to Salvation Army since I have one of my own. The bluebird box sold as soon as I listed it and the shoes and Willow Tree frame took a few days but did sell.

It was very nice having Brenna along for the hunt and it was a full morning. Lots of sales and jumping in and out of the car. Yes, it is an active morning to say the least during the busy season!

I found these children's Keen sandals for $3 but no one has shown interest to buy. I have a couple of other pairs and I think I will wait until summer is closer. These retail for $40 and are really great shoes. Fingers crossed I can sell them at a profit.

I picked up this end table at the flea market a few weeks ago. Have discovered one near Greenville opened as luck would have it, on my day off, Weds. Crissie and I have been going early morning to see what treasures we can find...cheaply! It was there I found the metal dog crate for Honey Bea for $20 and this end table for $10. It was an ugly avocado green but solid wood and I hoped it was the size Brenna and Robbie were looking for their bedroom. Alas, no drawers which is a must have. So I am in the process of sanding, priming and painting it to sell. Have done all of the above at this point and hope to list it this week.

This large picture frame (19x19x2) I found at the flea market for $2. I thought it would be a sure winner and sell quickly. Not. Perhaps it's because instead of 1 large photo spot there are 2 small spots for 4x6 photos. I don't know but it will be off to the Salvation Army this week.

We're being followed!

Yard sale season just keeps picking up; the listings in the paper and on Craigslist grow longer each week. Love it! And now my list from family members is growing as well. Not a problem. I get a kick when  finding something someone has put on a wish list...at a bargain price.

A few saturdays ago, Johanna and I hit the road early again, at 0'dark thirty, but this time Johanna's mom, Babs, and her Aunt Mary Kate followed along behind us. Mary Kate was visiting last week and she loves the yard sale scene as much as we do. In fact rather early into the morning Mary Kate found this bar stool and basket. She had just recently decided she needed one in her kitchen and lo and behold. Her wish was granted. Very sturdy, perfect for her place.

I was happy with my finds. The infinity scarf below goes to Brenna. One of the beach chairs stays with me and the other goes to Kelley. That was an item on her wish list. The 2 Hot Wheels Pop n Play were a real find. I found them at the bottom of a box and after looking for the manufactured date (1988) I suspected they might be a collector's item. New in box? Oh yes. Sure enough I found only a few similiar ones online. Very collectable. 

The Melissa and Doug dinosaur puzzle is in very gently used condition and I will sell with a couple of others as a lot this week.

I thought the little crab bowl was so cute and immediately thought of my friend Carolyn. Not because she's crabby, but because she has a beach house filled with whimsical and beachy items. This looked 

like it belonged in her home.

The white shelf unit with peg hooks has already been sold to my friend Colette. And the four cup measuring cup stays with me. I really like this kind of measuring cup and especially the bigger size. Good deals all.

The bedside steps were in excellent condition. I thought of Brenna and Robby when I saw them. They have a rather high bed and I can see little Nate using this before too long to clamber up to snuggle. And if they didn't want, I knew it would be an easy sell. Still had the $30 price sticker on the bottom. 

The standing birdcage/plant stand/decorative item I gave a quick coat of black paint and sold to Carolyn who now has starting to collect decoratie birdcages. She came by the house and saw it in my dining room. I was going to post it online to sell. No need. Found a new home the easy way! I do like a quick sale!

The new sealed spray paint was an impulse by but for 50 cents, I will buy just about any spray paint new. Makes touch ups and painting signifiantly cheaper. The toothbrush? Well, I found a box of these, I believe there were 30 in total. Johanna bought most and I bought 10. 10cents each! These all go to the St. Vincent de Paul Society as a donation. Every Tuesday folks line up outside the parish hall for free canned goods and any clothing or personal items that have been donated. Johanna donates a lot of clothing she finds at yard sales to "Vinnie" as she refers to the charitable organization.

I bought the small shelf unit thinking to sell it. And I will. As soon as I have time! The silk shawl I am sending to my sister Fran. I think it is gorgeous and I can see her wearing it to the ballet or symphony. Hope she likes it. The baby headbands were on Kelley's list for little Julia who is now 2 months old!! The eyeliner makeup is for me as well as one of the new wrinkle reducing serum bottles. The other has already gone to Brenna. Start early ladies!!

Johanna found a multitude of items, lots of craft and sewing stuff; her craft group probably went wild when she brought her haul to them last Thursday. I did manage to capture some of her loot. The top picture is a palm sander with bag and also had some Dremel attachments thrown in with the sale. The photo on the right is some more Johanna goodies. She kindly let me have a pair of wooden knitting needles for my sister Vickie who had requested them many months ago. She wants to use as a digging tool for her gardening. The white round plastic "dishes" are actually paint trays and there were about 10 in the pack. I loved the set of round knitting needles.

I also took a picture of why it is important to make sure your yard sale signs are securely attached to a surface. If it is laying in the middle of the street, chances are the traffic to your sale will be somewhat diminished! Secure your signs people!!

 We had fun and finished in time to have breakfast and catch up on the week in review. Hot coffee and conversation are the best way to end the morning. In my opinion.
