Plentiful Picking

Happy June!! I was a happy picker last Saturday, hunting with my peeps, Johanna and Patty. I do love picking with peeps! We met at Patty's house at a little before 0'dark thirty and made it to the first sale at 6am. There were lots of yard sales and only so much time. I beleive we stopped shopping around 9:30 and had breakfast together to catch up on our week and lives. Best part of the Saturday morning tradition for me is conversation with friends.

Below is Patty's van trunk shot. Obviously we found lots of stuff treasures, something for literally everyone. As usual I will only show what I found. The ladies'  goodies you'll just have to imagine.

I recently realized I have no trays. Gradually, one at a time, they have broken a handle, fell off a wall, etc. So I was on the lookout for a "new" one.  The one below is a perfect size and needs no touchups. The flowers are tile inserts and I thought quite pretty. I will endeavor to take better care.

The food storage canisters go to my sister Fran. They seal nicely and no chips or cracks. The Christmas velcro tape in green and red will be put to use as needed. And definitely not just for Christmas decor. I gave 2 to the veterinary clinic I run errands for since they usually have use for this stuff. I pick up expensive brand hair products when I find them cheap at yard sales and the ones below are great! Even found a small air freshener too. The little green package at the bottom contains soap (I love good soap) and shower and bath gel. And the sprinkler will be used at my grandson's birthday party next weekend. Pool party for toddlers!

All shown here cost me $6.50

My niece Lindsey had requested I purchase kid size yard tools for her son, Beau. And these I snatched up for a great price. I did reserve one of the shovels for Nate to use at the beach. You can did pretty fast with sturdy shovel and create great holes and large sandcastles.

50 cents each

I've been on the lookout for a kid size basketball hoop for Nate and this is in excellent condition and a  good price. He hasn't used it yet but it will be out for the birthday party. Yard fun!

Little Tikes basketball hoop: $6

Last Friday, I went to a sale around lunch time and found 4 of these glass storage containers. Nice and large, I think they hold a little under a gallon. I showed them to my daughter Brenna and she loved them. She traded me her older metal ones for these. I sold hers for $10. Family discount!

4 for $5

Here they are after being filled and labeled.

Below is a better close up of the canisters for my sister, Fran and also a beach shade for beach trips with Nate. My daughter Brenna and son-in-law Robbie might find it helpful this summer.

Both shade and set of canisters were $2 each.

I found childrens' shoes and bought a couple for Nate to grow into, and the top two to sell.

Children's shoes were $1 a pair. I have already sold the girl's sandals for $5

Another NorthFace jacket! This was in "like new" condition and I bought it for $10. It sold quickly for $40.

Step level Readers are great reselling books. I can usually buy from between .10 to .50 and resell (depending on condition) for $1-$1.25. Lately I have found several moms who basically ask me to let them know when I get more and they buy from me, especially now that school is out.

Now you don't always have to pay for items! Patty found this couch (now gracing her family room) for free. Students leaving a rental had just carried it out. Really great condition, covers remove for machine wash. Out with her old, rather beat up 25 yr old+ sofa and in with this lovely, comfy couch. Should many more years. It is well constructed and made in NC near Greensboro. Love free!!

FREE!

Kelley had bean bags on her wish list for seating in the boat by little ones. This small footstool is perfect. Vinyl covering and no holes or rips.

Bean bag ottoman: $1

I like Pyrex. I just can't help appreciating this vintage bowl and let me tell you, it is quite big. So I picked it up for Fran's second home at the coast. Hope she appreciates it too.

Big Pyrex bowl: $2

Not a great picture but I love it. It's a Christmas tree skirt and the jewel tones caught my eye and I had to have it. Fingers crossed Pru the cat won't "fall in love" with it. Those claws are lethal on sateen!

Christmas tree skirt: $3

One of my favorite finds was this pair of faux Jack Rogers sandals. They fit great and look never worn. I have already worn a couple of times. Yay!! I didn't have to pay retail! (I almost went out and bought a pair. Really, tried on a pair at a shoe store...and left without buying. They just didn't feel comfortable, even on sale.

Sandals: $1!!
Oh, there's more, but it has taken me so long to get this post published, I think I'm going to wait til I get to Merriewold next week to post again. Leisure time will make it faster and enjoyable.

Happy June everyone. Hope you found some deals, steals, and bargains too. Catch up with you next week in the cool, Catskills during our vacation.

Part 2 of Happy Hunting

There were so many good purchases in April I decided to do a part 2 post. Also, though April was a good thrifting month, May fell short. I have had family activities that, yes, do take priority to hitting the yard sale circuit. And so I will show what fun finds I had in April.

The photo below is another example of wonderful signage. Wow. It was definitely photo worthy. As I have said before (many times), the words Yard Sale, and an arrow is all you need to get the attention of any bargain shopper on a Saturday morning. Granted, they went the extra mile on this one! And I might add, just as important was the follow thru of other signs leading to the yard sale.

Never discount the importance of good signage!

I buy shoes for either retail or for personal use when they are either like new or in excellent used condition and are great brands. Oh, and of course, CHEAP PRICE!!! The green Toms brand below looked like they had never been used. Yes, I will resale but will wait till the fall. And the same with the Mary Jane style black Dansko's; fall sale.

The concrete planter is for my house. I love the old concrete planters and snapped this one up as soon I spotted it from my car. I have geraniums that I'll plant this weekend.

The Pampered Chef baking dish is for me too. I use the larger one I bought a couple of years ago at a yard sale for $3 but not that often these days as it is just Steve and I at home. This smaller one is perfect for a dinner for 2. Love Pampered Chef cookware, just not the retail price!

Toms: $5. Danskos: $8. Planter: $10. Pampered Chef baker: $3

The Sperry shoes were too small for me so I sold them for $20. The t-shirts were for my grandson Nate; love the Captain Cool the best! And the little shoes were for Julia, my great niece.
Sperry shoes: $3.  Pirate shirts: 50 cents

Shoes: $2 each

As soon as I saw this beach chair, I thought of my great nephew Beau pictured below with it. His immediate reaction was so cute; he sat down and didn't want to get up! It is the kind with the shoulder straps so he can carry it to the beach his own self.

Child size beach chair: $3

I mentioned going to an estate sale in the last post with my friend, Carolyn. I went through a box of knives and picked out these vintage Case brand paring knives. They appear new and are sharp!! I like the reverse grip. I also found a bread knife for 25cents and it too was a quality made piece, nice and sharp.

Case knives: 25 cents each

Carolyn found this little jewel of a teapot, brand new. She likes the built in infuser.

New Bodom teapot: $2

Since my grandson Nate will be renewing the toilet training this summer and happens to love Elmo, I had to get the dvd below and the Halloween costume as well. We will have to wait a year before he can get into the 3T size costume.

Elmo dvd: $1. Elmo costume was in original package: $3

I picked up this brand new felt die cut Disney Christmas stocking to sell on Ebay. I'll wait till fall to list.

Christmas stocking: $2
And here is Nate finally riding the trike I bought this winter (and never posted on the blog). It was in like new condition, no rust, stains, etc. but it had an issue with the handle that steers it when the little ones can't quite push the pedals. That I didn't realize until I brought it home. Fortunately a friend was able to figure out the problem and correct it. YAY!!! Nate likes his trike!

Radio Flyer trike with removable steering handle: $15
Here are few items Patty bought on our trip together.

Rug: $1. Lawn mower for Nate: $2. Lamps: $5 for the pair

The boots are for Nate and he will not be able to wear them for at least a couple of years, maybe more. In fact, I may just sell them but we'll see. I mean, when  you live in Pirate country, these are pretty cool. And kids and rain boots....well, I think I'm going to wait for him to grow!

Pirate rainboots: $1!!!
North Face sells well, and this sold as soon as I listed it even though it wasn't in pristine condition. No stains, just very gently used. Women's size small sold for $20.

North Face jacket: $3

I am sorry it has taken me so long to get this posted. I had a back injury that made it too painful to sit at the computer to type in descriptions. I missed yard sailing for 3 straight weekends due to being in pain and then after recovery, I had to be out of town.

So needless to say I am really looking forward to joining Johanna and Patty this weekend to renew our "pickin" activities!
I promise to be more timely in my gleeful gloating to share finds and adventures.
Until then, may your bargains be many and your week pleasant.
