Wake Up!

Thank goodness for alarms, right? Well, not when your cell phone alarm goes off from the previous week's setting...5:20am and you wanted to get up at 6:20. Sigh. Technology is wonderful at times but this morning I wasn't appreciating it. Especially since I didn't go to bed until 2:30am! Today I am grateful for the ability to nap.
I was happy to jump into Carolyn's car at 6:40am coffee mug in hand with about 7 sales listed. We met our friend Colette at the first sale. This was one of 3 advertised together. Two were on the same street and the other one close by. I love sales in the same neighborhood. I bought a necklace. My favorite color, green; choker style.
I like seeing clothing displayed and folks can get creative finding ways to showcase their goods. We appreciate the effort. I have said it before, I don't want to waste time rummaging through boxes or clothes on blankets or tarp on the ground. And to be honest, getting down to squat position is easy, getting up is another thing these days! So A for effort from these sellers.

Here is the trunk shot from the morning haul. Again, extra items in the large tote on the right is not from the morning's haul. Carolyn owns the largest tote bag in the world!

Carolyn bought this new,  in the box Giant cupcake baker at the first sale,

$2. Looks like her daughter will be having a cupcake birthday!

 this wireless printer
$15 and it is up and running at Carolyn's house

and this frog bath toy holder (in original box, never used). It afixes to your shower wall.
$5 for her niece's new baby

Moving on we went to several others, ones listed and some we were surprised to find. When the list is short we appreciate those kinds of surprises. The cold morning warmed up a little but I continued to keep my gloves I purchased last week on my hands. I am enjoying those $1 gloves.

$5 each
I picked up this pair of clear acrylic lamps with shades.  Have them listed at $20 for the pair.  Tested and they work. Excellent condition.
$5

This pair of new with original box of Boys Sperry sandals are also on my going to sell list.

$4

Another possible "to sell" item is this child's coat rack. The face is missing a nose. I will find a dowel to fit in there and hope to at least double my money.

Swimmers and hat:50 cents each. Feeder: $2

Group shot of miscellaneous. Almost full pack of Little Swimmers diapers for my great niece to be born in early spring along with the sun hat. Not sure whose head that one will go on. Nate or Beau. The hummingbird feeder I bought because it has the bee guards and an ant moat.

This pair of shoes called out to me. Couldn't resist. 50 cents. New. Too cute.
Photo of it lit

This is a small mission style lamp. Approximately 8" tall. The glass insert in the middle is a lovely cranberry color. I have hopes of reselling.
$3

The very last sale of the day I found the lamp pictured above, and by the way it came with a working bulb installed and an extra one in the package.

Carolyn bought this Belkin iphone/itouch/ fm audio transmitter for her daughter. Brianne has an iTouch so this will work in her car. Hands free music . It took some figuring out, as in it works well in Brianne's car but not in Carolyn's. So...that's good!
$15... a bargain!

And last but not least, Colette found this mirror at her last sale of the day. Since it was located right around the corner from her house, she left Carolyn and I to continue on. If I needed a large mirror, I would have nabbed this one. In fact I picked it up to test the weight and determined the frame was wood. But alas, no need for it. Colette bought it and plans to paint the frame. Hey Colette, what color have you chosen?!

$10  Measures 2 x 3 feet

I found this Paul Revere oval pan at Goodwill for $3. I cleaned it up and am trying to sell on the FB group sale site. Limited edition and in relatively great condition except for scratches on the bottom. Obviously wasn't for display only! Fingers crossed for a sale. I am slowly but sure raising moneys for my charity.

Update on pan. A friend bought it Sunday for $15.

A couple of weeks ago I bought this wicker table for my living room. I wasn't fond of the brown color so with my daughter's Brenna's advice I spray painted it black yesterday and am quite pleased with the result. It is just the right size to go between two arm chairs. And now it matches a black sofa table in the same room.

And speaking of past purchases, the Homedics Shiatsu Massage Cushion is a huge hit in the Logan household. OMG!! Thank you Carolyn for talking me into going back and paying the $15 asking price.
I also sold an Advent calendar I found months ago. I offered it to a group of close friends before I listed it for sale online. Snatched up for the asking price of $15. Paid $2. My charity fund is growing. I love it.

Going to a 5th grade Catholic classroom.
And my husband could not wait any longer for a turntable. So Ebay to the rescue and his Christmas present is already in use. No, he refused to put it back in the box for me to wrap and save for next month. Go figure! So the albums are out and we are enjoying this stereo old school music. I have been asked to look for better speakers; apparently the Aiwa speakers are ok but better is wanted. Just give me the specs, a photo and I will do my best. Keeping in mind, sales are going to be winding down now that the holidays are upon us and winter as well, the speaker hunt will take time. However the reciever is great and I can now enjoy tunes all through the house, sometimes outside too!

So that is all for this week's finds and adventures. Hope you had some bargain finds too. I hold no hope for next Saturday yard sale shopping since it is just after a holiday and folks are busy putting up decorations. So that may be a sleep in Saturday morn before I head to my brother's home in Morehead City.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Turn Around!!

Last week Crissie and I went to yard sales together and this weekend I was accompanied by Carolyn. Fun!! I love companions. Makes all the difference.
In the past it seemed Carolyn would find stuff than I but this time it was me all over the place. Funny how the sales luck ebbs and wanes. And although Carolyn didn't hit a "jackpot" she was delighted with her finds and as always, it is so much fun to witness another's lucky moments. And that, my friends, is why you always are better off bargain hunting in the company of a friend.

Thank goodness there were no 5:30 sales listed. We slept in. I met Carolyn at her house at 5:45, list in one hand and coffee travel mug in the other(previous yard sale find) and off we went. Well, not really because I when I pulled out my handy dandy head lamp, I remembered it needed new batteries. Last week I wanted to show it off to Crissie and was chagrined to find it not working. So, bless her heart, Carolyn ran back in the house and offered me 3 AAA batteries and then we were off!

We had high hopes for a "community yard sale" down the road. But only 2 sellers had their stuff out and though 2 chairs gave me pause, really comfortable, great shape, the seller wanted to sell as a pair for $80. Just wasn't feeling like spending that much money and then there was transportation issues. Carolyn found a couple of items there which I have pictured at the end of the post.

We probably stopped at 10 sales and would have kept going but I had to be home by 9am. We shopped at different sales until 8am when the church community sale started. There were probably 30 venders set up in the parking lot. The church rents out parking spaces for families to sell their "yard sale" items. The sellers pay a fee and they are responsible for setting up and removing their stuff. Carolyn and I walked up and down, shopping at lots of "yard sales" in the same spot. Talk about saving gas! We love it!

So here are my finds this Saturday. I do like reed diffusers. Found this boxed set of my favorite scent, lavender. I can't use the candle so I will give that away but the diffuser and the spray are keepers.

$2
We are a house divided now. My husband has given up caffenated coffee. I can't. So I was looking for a 4 cup coffee maker and voila! Found one! And here it is with brewed coffee on my counter. Works!

$1
I lose gloves all the time. So I will buy gloves whenever I find them. I picked up a pair of black leather gloves with 100% silk lining. Ooh! they feel good! Bought another pair of cream colored leather ones with cashmere lining too and  I put those on and used them the rest of the yard sale excursion since it was a chilly morn.

I respect spiders; Charlotte's Webb is a favorite children's book of mine. I like this one and look forward to reading it to my grandson, Nate when he is older. Hopefully he will be the gentle remover of spiders when his mother is screaming for them to be smashed. One hopes.

50 cents (hardback)
Crissie had asked me to keep an eye out for furniture for her. She was having her yardsale and couldn't get out to other sales. I found this one that needs a little TLC but was well made and sturdy.

I bought this for $5

And Crissie has already transformed it for resell. Cute!

Before the community church sale we stopped at a sale on my favorite street, Primrose Lane.
After shopping there, we headed off for more, and as we were driving, we noticed a woman dragging this table to the side of the road. So I yelled "Turn around !" (therein lies the reason for the post title) to Carolyn. And she did. And of course a car behind us had also pulled up. Fortunately those folks weren't interested in the  table but some other items she was taking out of her garage. She asked $20 for the table, had a pretty tablecloth to go with it and also an Ikea wood lazy susan. I bought the three items for $25. I don't  want the table, I want the base. I am going to paint my round pedastal table top but have never been a fan of the base. So I am going to switch the bases out. If Crissie wants the top and the old base, she can have them for free to  paint and resale.
Another project!
So here are some other items I picked up. The batting is for my daughte Ellie's project. Converting a door into an upholstered headboard. So I grabbed the batting below for $1 for both bunches. Found another car mat for Hugh and there is the Ikea Lazy Susan I mentioned earlier. That needs sanding and painting and I believe I will either keep it or sell. Not sure.

Lazy Susan $2, car mat $4, and batting $1
Carolyn has a back massager seat just like this one on her living room chair. OMG!!! I have experienced it and didn't want to get off. So this one in the box caught my eye at the community sale. It had a $15 price tag and I asked the seller if she'd take $10. "No" was the answer. I walked away with Carolyn buzzing in my ear about what a great price it was, they sell for  $50-$100 and if I didn't get it she was considering going back and getting it herself! Agh!! So I went back and paid the $15. And it is just as wonderful as Carolyn's.

Same sale I bought the $5 table for Crissie, I found this fatwood filled metal bucket. We have a woodstove so I can use the fatwood. The bucket I am considering selling. Not my decor style but maybe someone else's.

$3
The little shoes were $1 a pair. Nate gets them. And he will pass the white ones on to his little cousin Julia when she gets older. The box contains 26 match box cars. I was looking at them at the sale and the seller said 10 cents each. When I started pulling out one by one, counting, he said take the whole box for $2. Sold! The  books will be donated to my SIL's public school and the Nate The Great book goes in Grandma's stash.

Books: 25cents, soft leather toddler shoes: $1 each and box of 26 cars: $2

Now to Carolyn's purchases!
Black hanger for teacups...50 cents
Two small oil lamps, $1; LED candle diffuser, $1; mint chocolate candle, 25 cents,
 and candle stick, 25 cents
Sweet little glass jar already filled with cinnamon sugar..$1
Mouse Trap game...brings back childhood memories!  $2

And that concludes the yard sale finds of the week. And I have finally caught up with my backlog and will try my best not to get so far behind. Looking forward to next weekend with Carolyn once again. The sales will be fewer after this weekend, Thanksgiving weekend will be paltry as is usual after a holiday and folks are getting into the Christmas holiday decorating. We shall see. One weekend at a time! Happy bargain hunting and see you next week.

Christy meets Crissie

I know my blog concerns Saturday morning yard sales but sometimes I luck out and find one or two on a Friday. But last week I was invited to a "yard sale that didn't happen". Long story short, a group of folks were setting up for a yard sale and the day they planned to have it turned out to not be a good day for it.. But with a garage full of goods, one of the sellers offered to let some people come by during the week and shop. I found this out through the Facebook online yard sale group and contacted the seller. I called her to set up a time and when I arrived, she opened the garage door and it was packed! Her name is Crissie and I met my yard sale match with this young lady! She is as addicted as me! We chatted about our love of the hunt and I shopped around as we talked. I ended up with a few items but even better was a new connection and a new friend. I told her I was looking for a turntable for my husband and matchbox cars for my great nephew. Didn't find a turntable but one of her family members collects matchbox cars, is looking to downsize, and sold me 21 for $5. And when I brought the cars to Hugh the next day, well, just look at the picture below to see he is having fun!
The child loves cars!
I did find this mailbox Crissie painted. All that was lacking was a coat of poly. I fell in love immediately! It was the hummingbird that captured my heart. I thought of my mom when I made this purchase. I rarely buy things for myself just for the heck of it, I do try to be as practical as possible. But not with this one. My mom had a poem by Saadi she memorized and would recite.

If of thy mortal goods thou art bereft,
And from thy slender store two loaves alone to thee are left,
Sell one, and with the dole
Buy hyacinths to feed thy soul.

So what this means is I bought something for no other purpose than to make me smile. I took it home, sprayed on several coats of poly and voila! Is my husband thrilled with a black mailbox? No. Do I really care? No. It will be installed on Sunday with great delight and care. My hyacinth.
$20
My nephew Jon is a deer hunter and a few months ago put in a request for a swivel bar stool for his deer blind. I found this one in Crissie's garage and bought it for $5. Not the cleanest or loveliest chair in the world but a great price and since it is going in a deer stand, I knew looks weren't important. Plus, it rather comfy.

Can't beat a chair for $5!

It may be too short but Jon thinks he can rig up a couple of boards to get the height he needs. Looking forward to some venision soon!

So when Crissie casually mentioned if I ever wanted company on a Saturday morning, I decided to take her up on that offer. Johanna and Babs were out of town and I thought Carolyn was gone too. You know I don't like going solo. Let me tell you, Christy and Crissie had a whirlwind morning with finds galore!
First stop was a sale at 6:30. Still dark out. Now, let me begin with Crissie. She is a reseller. Especially furniture. That is the first thing she asks about when she arrives at a sale. She obviously can paint (note the mailbox) and so buys furniture cheap at yard sales, paints and does minor repairs, and then sells on Craigslist and the FB online yard sale site.
We arrived and immediately she found a dresser that was still in the trailer. $10! It was still really dark but we could tell it was really nice. As in fantastic condition. I took a picture but since it was still in the trailer, I didn't get a complete picture. I love the handles and the drawers slid out so easily. It really was a quality piece. So Crissie paid the $10 and left it there to be picked up later when she had access to her husband's truck.

We had lots on the list and just kept going. Crissie was looking for a work desk and found this one. Again, we left it behind to be collected later.

Asking price $20. Paid $10
Yes, I also found some items as well. This wicker table was in great shape and has already replaced a side table in my living room that was too big for the space. I plan to spray paint it black to go with some other furniture pieces. Another on my to-do list. Isn't it cute?!
$5 wicker side table.
We arrived at one sale (note, it truly was a frosty morning) and knew where the yard sale was! Never have seen a yard sale sign quite that big and prominent! Nice sign but the goods were not that great.
Great advertising, just wish they had quality goods!
Crissie found a lot more furniture than I took pictures of, trust me! But I just love this one. My favorite. We arrived at this sale at the end of our morning. It was getting late. Price tag on the desk (chair came with it) was $50. Crissie paid $20 and this will actually be her work table instead of the one she bought earlier. That one is already listed and I hope will be sold soon.

I bought the geraniums that are on top of the desk, a black quilted vest, and a rug. All for $5.
Love the color on these faux geraniums.
Ok, I really could not resist these shades. The silver/pewter one is by Restoration Hardware, made of silk and in absolutely pristine condition. And it is big. 17 inches diameter. Retail value is around $64. Yes, I looked it up. I paid $2. And the smaller one is a neat color and I love the raised flecks. $2. I have already found a cool tall lamp at Goodwill with a mirrored base that I think will look fabulous with the larger shade. I plan to sell that and feel confidant I can get a good price. I have to justify my shade addiction problem somehow and find good homes for lovely shades. I am not a hoarder! But don't go into my attic. Christmas decor is taking over up there.
$4 for both.
I also found a craftsman sander with a bagger for $1. I had no need of one at the moment but, hey, for $1? I grabbed it! It stayed with Crissie since she had some big projects and needed one. She says it does a great job and is very happy using it.

My olive oil bottle's spout fell inside and was unretrievable. Don't you hate when that happens? So I found one for 50 cents and switched out the spout. Saved my lovely blue bottle and recycled the other. And didn't take a picture but I am sure you all know what an olive oil spout looks like.
A car rug/mat for Hugh. This goes to my sister's Cee's house for Hugh to play with when he visits.
$4
These are a couple of Fisher Price toys I picked up for a friend's 1 year old granddaughter for $1 each.
I figured anything musical for $1 is fun for both grandparent and
grandchild.

And though I know I found more treasures, I neglected to photograph them before I had to leave for Morehead City, NC to visit my brother Sonny. Crissie and I had a blast, and I am happy as can be with this new friendship. We will continue to keep our eyes open for each other on deals and rejoice when we find a bargain. Kindred spirits indeed.
Happy bargain hunting to all.

All Over Town

Sandy was in the forcast and so was rain. I wondered how many yard sales would be up and running and how many would be canceled. Turned out several were canceled but enough were out there to make the morning worth it. One sale was listed starting at 5am and not another until 6:30. No way I was going to get up that early for one sale. Good thing I didn't. I mosied over there around 6:30 and not a sign of life to be seen at the house. And the same was the case for the next 2. I was getting a little discouraged since I had driven all the way to the opposite side of town. We are talking gas burning away! I was alone this time and didn't even have anyone to commiserate with! But then I found some sales and I quit silently moaning.

I bought these warm gloves for 50 cents and the fuzzy insides are very comfy. Yes, cold weather is coming and I will buy gloves anytime I can. These will do nicely.

This little bubble suit will hopefully fit Nate, my grandson, by Easter. Is this cute or what!? And did you notice the tag still attached?

$1
Also for Nate was this bootie set brand new still in package. The boy has small ankles and Brenna asked me to look for the kind with sock-like uppers. These are a little big but his feet should fit them in a month or two.

50cents
And then something terrible happened. My favorite (ok, only) designated yardsale bag handle started coming apart! And then one of the handles snapped. I ended up tying it together but the end is in sight for this. Why, you may ask is it my "go to" bag? Because it is so light weight. I keep my headlight, yardsale wallet, camera, tape measure, sanitizer, and tissues in there. When I head out in the morning, I grab it and go. And the handles go over my shoulders with room to spare. So comfy. I might have to duct tape the handles, I am that reluctant to let it go. We shall see.

Brenna asked me to keep an eye out for the Magic Tree House books for her classroom library. I found this hardback copy for 50 cents.

There was a sale on Friday and there I bought this bag and another of Christmas ornaments for 50 cents. I am planning to use these for decorations inside the house in a  clear glass apothacary jar.

B
rand new tree lights. White lights on green wire? Oh yes! There are 300 lights in this bundle. I paid $1 and I do believe now I am prepared for Christmas tree trimming.

Johanna and Babs had a yardsale too that weekend, clearing out odds and ends of Uncle Tim's belongings. I bought this new box of CFLs for $3. I also bought a Craftsman lopper with extending handles for $5. I didn't take a picture of those but they looked very gently used. I thought my landscaping nephew could use an extra pair and I was right. He was quite happy and asked for me to look for rakes, shovels and other gardening items. His crew are pretty rough on tools so any he doesn't have to buy new is good.

$3
I bought this pretty handled canvas tote for $5 thinking to resell it but found out it is not worth much more. Not the quality I had thought it was. So I am keeping it and using it to hold stuff in my car.

Last week I sold all the American Girl paperbacks for $2 each. Remember I paid 50 cents each for them. So when I saw these hardback books in almost new condition, I hoped I could do a repeat performance. Not so much. Not a nibble. So I will donate them to Robbie's school. Only paid 50 cents each. No great loss and I like to donate books.

This was a great find! Columbia brand men's size M rain jacket. Mint condition. Paid $2 for it. Sold it for $20. More funds for the charity I have embraced.

I bought this pretty table runner for $3 and it is already on my sofa table. Looks lovely and brightens up the room. The jewel like colors caught my eye and I fell for it.

I picked up this mug because it was made in Scotland and by the company Doonan. I will attempt to sell on Ebay eventually.

And that was the extent of my finds last weekend. Very few sales and inclement weather made it somewhat disappointing and I did literally drive all around town. Missed my friends but sucked it up and managed to go solo again without too much moaning.

Hope you survived Super Storm Sandy. Here in Greenville, NC, we just had rain and some wind and feel extremely blessed we dodged that bullet.
Have a great week and good bargain hunting everyone!
